Barbecued Seafood is tasty and healthy! It can be made with only a few ingredients, and it is delicious when served with chips and salsa on the table in the evenings. The recipe is very easy to follow, but it does require a bit of skill to avoid scorching or boiling the seafood whilst preparing it. Cooking seafood in boiling water is not as simple as you might imagine.
How You Can Barbecue Seafood:
Prawns and Fish
Wash the prawn and fish with cold water. Use a tablespoon of olive oil, butter, garlic, chilli powder, ground pepper, onion powder, salt and lemon juice in the marinade mix. Cover and leave for two hours, then open the grill or smoker to cook the fish.
Once it is cooked, remove the barbecued seafood from the grill or smoker and allow to rest for at least five minutes, occasionally basting with extra lemon juice. Serve with chips and salsa for a healthy and delicious meal.
Squid is a really good ingredient to have on your Barbecued Seafood platter. It makes the platter special. Squids are full of protein. Cooked squid can be sprinkled on top of dishes or served on its own. To make a light and easy dinner, simply marinate the squids in lime juice and lemon juice, along with a couple of slices of red onion. Cook the squids to perfection on the grill, flipping once if need be, and serve with the onion wedges on top.
Clams and oysters
Clams and oysters are also fantastic additions to any Barbecued Seafood platter. Be sure to also place a fresh bay leaf or two on top of the clams or oysters as well. When the clams have been cooked through, remove them from the grill and let cool. Be careful as the shells tend to get overcooked. Toss a couple of these in your seafood platter, and you are sure to make the platter more interesting.
Spicy lime juice
To really dress up your prawns and other seafood in an interesting manner, serve them with spicy lime juice. This works incredibly well when mixed with hot sauce. An excellent combination would be to add a teaspoon of the spicy lime juice and a spoonful of the hot sauce to create a tasty dish.
If you’re really looking to kick things up a notch, try cooking seafood using this interesting method. After you’ve pulled the prawns and other seafood through the grill, dry them in an airtight container. Place them in a zip lock bag and either refrigerate them or put them in a small aluminium foil pan that has been nicely dusted with flour to help seal in the moisture, so they don’t dry out.
Finally, to complete the process, add a layer of aioli over the seafood that has been cooked on the grill. Aioli comes in a variety of flavours, from a sharp and intense lemon juice flavour to a mild and sweet mustard flavour. Just try and avoid the sharp aioli taste. Instead, opt for a milder version, such as a vinegar-based aioli. It will give the grilled seafood that perfect barbecue taste.
